Bigness is not a building; it is a piece of the city. The structure itself begins to behave like an urban entity. Based on this idea, the project focuses on Rem Koolhaas’s concept of “Bigness” and questions the city’s potential to regenerate itself from within. The expansion of İzmir from the coastline toward the inner regions over time, along with the emergence of large-scale housing developments such as TOKI, has shaped the main concepts. These new residential areas not only provide shelter but also bring various urban functions with them. In this context, a mixed-use center has been designed around a vertical transportation node in Limontepe, combining commercial, cultural, and social spaces. The project aims to make this new urban fragment more vibrant and integrated within itself.
Bigness bir bina değil, bir şehir parçasıdır. Yapının kendisi artık kent gibi davranır. Buradan yola çıkan proje, Rem Koolhaas’ın “Bigness” kavramına odaklanarak, şehrin kendi içinde kendini yeniden üretme potansiyelini sorgular. İzmir’in zamanla kıyıdan iç bölgelere doğru genişlemesi ve TOKİ gibi büyük ölçekli konut alanlarının ortaya çıkışıyla ana fikirler şekillenmiştir. Bu yeni yerleşim bölgeleri yalnızca barınma değil, aynı zamanda çeşitli kentsel fonksiyonları da beraberinde getirmektedir. Bu bağlamda, Limontepe’de oluşturulan bir dikey ulaşım düğümü etrafında; ticari, kültürel ve sosyal alanları bir araya getiren karma kullanımlı bir merkez tasarlanmıştır. Proje, bu yeni şehir parçacığını kendi içinde daha canlı ve bütünleşmiş bir hale getirmeyi amaçlamaktadır.
