Today, people often have to travel long distances and rely on private vehicles to meet their basic needs. The starting point of this project, the 15-minute city concept, aims to ensure that residents of Yaşar Kemal Neighborhood can access essential services, housing, and public spaces within 15 minutes by walking, cycling, or using public transportation. In doing so, it reduces private car use and lowers the carbon footprint. Designed in response to the high housing density and lack of public space, The Civic Merge offers a multifunctional hub at the neighborhood scale. The building includes a theater hall, an amphitheater, classrooms for educational activities, and a library that can serve as a workspace. It is not only a theatre building but also a gathering place that encourages community participation and interaction. Integrated with the adjacent marketplace, it creates a square that supports social engagement. In addition, two existing housing units are repurposed for composting and urban farming, providing a sustainable service area for the local residents.
Günümüzde insanlar temel ihtiyaçlarını karşılamak için çoğunlukla uzak mesafelere gitmek ve bireysel araç kullanmak zorunda kalıyor. Projenin çıkış noktası olan 15 dakikalık şehir konsepti ise, Yaşar Kemal Mahallesi'nde servis, konut ve kamusal alan gibi ihtiyaçlara yürüyerek, bisikletle veya toplu taşımayla 15 dakika içinde erişebilmeyi hedefliyor. Bu sayede bireysel araç kullanımı azalırken karbon ayak izi de düşürülüyor. Mevcut konut yoğunluğu ve kamusal alan eksikliği göz önünde bulundurularak tasarlanan “The Civic Merge”, mahalle ölçeğinde çok işlevli bir merkez sunuyor. Yapıda tiyatro salonu, amfitiyatro, eğitim sınıfları ve çalışma alanı olarak kullanılabilecek bir kütüphane bulunuyor. Bina, yalnızca bir tiyatro binası değil; mahalle sakinlerinin bir araya geldiği, katılımın teşvik edildiği bir buluşma alanı işlevi de görüyor. Yanındaki pazar yeriyle bütünleşerek sosyalleşmeyi destekleyen bir meydan oluşturuyor. Ayrıca iki mevcut konut, kompost ve tarım alanına dönüştürülerek sürdürülebilir bir servis alanı sağlıyor.
