What if there were a place where no two people sit the same, but everyone gets to sit? Where architecture doesn’t overpower the human, but lets their presence grow louder?
Mimora explores “bigness” not through spectacle, but through radical empathy and spatial generosity. Located in Karabağlar, İzmir, the project pairs a sustainability school with a shelter, questioning who deserves the city’s most visible spaces. Mimora invites students and unhoused individuals to co-inhabit and co-create. Construction becomes pedagogy; publicness becomes ritual. Drawing from town culture and grassroots resistance, the design prioritizes earth-based materials, layered thresholds, and participatory building methods. The result is a space where no form dominates, but all voices echo. A place where the shadow is longer than the human.
Hiç kimsenin aynı şekilde oturmadığı, ama yine de herkesin oturabildiği bir yer hayal edin. Mimarlığın bir baskı gücü olmadığı, aksine insanın varlığını büyüttüğü bir mekân?
Mimora, “büyüklüğü” gösterişli formlarda değil; radikal empati ve mekânsal cömertlikte arar. İzmir Karabağlar’da konumlanan proje, bir sürdürülebilirlik okulu ile evsizlere kucak açacak bir barınağı yan yana getirerek, kentin en görünür alanlarını kimin hak ettiğini sorgular. Öğrenciler ile barınma ihtiyacı duyan bireyleri birlikte yaşamaya ve üretmeye davet eder ve inşa süreci bir pedagojik araç haline gelir; kamusallık ise bir ritüele dönüşür. Mahalle kültürü ve tabandan gelen direniş ruhundan beslenen tasarım, toprak esaslı malzemeleri, katmanlı eşikleri ve katılımcı yapım yöntemlerini önceler. Ortaya çıkan mekânda hiçbir biçim baskın değildir; her ses yankılanır ve gölgeler insandan uzundur.
